John Calipari and Jon Scheyer might be going head to head for a top star as Arkansas and Duke appear to be the top contenders for 2028 five-star recruit AJ Williams. The battle is set to intensify as reports suggest Williams might actually be reclassifying in order to commit to a program for the 2027 season itself.
Insider “Big Blue Dylan” claims that Williams is definitely expected to reclassify to 2027, with Arkansas, Duke and lately even BYU in the mix to recruit him.
AJ Williams is widely considered the No. 1 recruit in the 2028 class and has been on the radar of several top teams, but reclassifying to 2027 opens up a whole new set of options for the teenager. With his 6-foot-8 frame, it’s understandable why teams are interested in him.
Williams has great size, length and bounce and is a solid three-point shooter with a clean stroke and a solid jump on him too, making him an ideal fit in any top NCAA Division One team.
John Calipari’s Recent Recruiting Victory
If John Calipari is able to convince AJ Williams to join the Arkansas Razorbacks, it won’t be his first recruiting victory in recent weeks. The former Kentucky head coach recently secured the commitment of four-star Caleb Ourigou, despite stiff competition from the likes of Mark Pope at the Kentucky Wildcats and Dan Hurley at the UConn Huskies.
The 6-foot-10 center had also visited BYU but chose to go ahead with Calipari, reclassifying from the 2027 class to add to a strong squad as several players move on to greener pastures in the NBA. Williams would only add more depth to an impressive list of names at coach Calipari’s disposal.
