It's understandable that Shakira Austin, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen have become the faces of the Washington Mystics' rebuild.
But after a knee injury cost her an entire season, Georgia Amoore is reminding fans that she is just as meaningful to the future of the playoff-bound Mystics.
Washington rallied to defeat the lowly Phoenix Mercury on Thursday night thanks to a career-best effort from Amoore, the sixth overall pick in the 2025 draft.
Amoore dropped a career-high 25 points in an 80-73 victory, out-dueling Mercury All-Star Kahleah Copper along the way. Copper scored 35 points, but it wasn't enough.

Washington — now 24-15 — has clinched its best regular-season record since its 2019 championship.

After she lost her entire rookie season due to a torn ACL, Amoore has started all 39 games for the Mystics this season.
Her per-game averages may not look gaudy — 6.5 points and 3.4 assists on 36/32/85 shooting splits — but Amoore has provided solid defense for one of the league's best units.

Amoore was a strong scorer during her collegiate career at Virginia Tech and the University of Kentucky; the two late 3-pointers she drilled against the Mercury, part of her career night, show that her potential to replicate that talent in the WNBA has hardly disappeared.
It's why the Mystics' rebuild is in such a good place. Washington has a core for the long haul, and that includes Amoore.
