Bill Self has found himself a lead guard.

Leroy Blyden Jr. has committed to the Kansas Jayhawks out of the transfer portal.

Blyden is coming off a dynamic freshman season in the MAC at the University of Toledo, and now he's taking a big step up to play at KU.

Blyden certainly appears ready. As a frosh with the Rockets, he put up 16.4 points per game on an efficient 50.7% from 2-point range and 40.7% from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

He's originally from Detroit, and he was a three-star recruit out of high school. By 247Sports he was ranked as the No. 52 point guard in the Class of 2025.

After a year of shining bright in the MAC, Blyden gets an upgrade.

He had taken a visit to St. John's before his recent visit to Kansas that led to his commitment.

Blyden's transfer saga was a bit less straightforward than some. Very late in the season at Toledo, he was adamant that he wouldn't be going anywhere, and he didn't immediately leap into the portal.

But as happens with so many players in modern college basketball, the allure of bigger and better drew Blyden in.

Kansas certainly needed a guard like him after the assumed departures of Melvin Council Jr. (eligibility) and Darryn Peterson (NBA).

Blyden is hoping he can use Kansas as a springboard to the next level, and it's a move that could work out well for both sides.
