The Kansas Jayhawks attempted to intensify the rivalry ahead of their clash with Missouri, but their pregame buildup quickly turned into a source of ridicule after the Tigers left Lawrence with yet another Border War win.
Missouri delivered a far-from-perfect performance and still pulled away for a convincing 38-21 win, leaving fans tearing into the program.
Kansas Gets Brutally Mocked After Missouri Extends Border War Dominance
Before the embarrassing loss to Missouri, Kansas’s social media team released an intense hype video highlighting memorable moments from the first 121 meetings between the Jayhawks and Tigers.
The production leaned heavily into the history and deep-rooted animosity between the two programs while also revisiting the historical connection between Kansas and Missouri, including the role the two states played during the Civil War.
The video featured references to several figures and events connected to that period, including the Lawrence Massacre, but Missouri had the final say on the field.
The Tigers defeated Kansas 38-21 to claim the 122nd edition of the Border War.
The result quickly turned the attention toward Kansas’ pregame production, with some mocking the Jayhawks for releasing such an ambitious hype video before suffering a convincing loss at home.

“Posted that edit to get RAN out of your own stadium. Smfh. Shame on you,” one said.
“1-1 y’all won the hype video,” a person said. “Great pregame video, but this clearly isn’t working. Time to make a head coaching change,” another added.
Kansas showed plenty of fight in the opening half and kept Missouri from pulling away. The Jayhawks entered halftime tied 14-14 after an aggressive first-half performance that gave them a legitimate opportunity to pull off the upset.
That opportunity disappeared in the second half, when Kansas committed turnovers on consecutive possessions and Missouri converted both takeaways into touchdowns. The Jayhawks could not afford the miscues that ultimately prevented them from completing the upset.
As Friday’s result also gave Missouri another opportunity to remind its rival which program currently holds the upper hand in the series, fans were understandably furious with Kansas’ performance.
“Unacceptable loss. Our rival comes to town, and this is how you play?! [Expletive] trash. Offense is undisciplined. Marshall is suspect at best. Defensive secondary is horrible. Mizzou really came onto our turf, disrespected you, and you all just rolled over and took it. [Expletive] you,” one said.
“Losing the battle but winning the war. A Kansas tradition. Real talk, I don’t think anyone expected a win, but Missouri played down to their competition, and KU should’ve been able to take advantage, but it is what it is. Onto next week #RockChalk,” a fan said.
The latest loss only added to Missouri’s dominance in the rivalry, as the Tigers extended their winning streak against Kansas to five consecutive games and boosted their recent control of the Border War.
