The opening night of college basketball season features the renewal of a classic rivalry as No. 5 Arizona meets No. 22 UCLA in Las Vegas.
The former conference foes have played 115 times since 1923 and have managed to keep the series going even after realignment sent them their separate ways.
The Wildcats have high hopes for this season despite losing several key players from last spring's Final Four run. UA leaned on returning starters Ivan Kharchenkov and Motiejus Krivas in three preseason wins, but five-star freshman Caleb Holt is quickly emerging as a go-to option and scored a team-high 21 in the exhibition finale against Eastern Washington.
The Bruins went 24-12 last year, bowing out with a second-round NCAA Tournament loss to UConn. Their top returning scorers are Trent Perry (12.6 ppg) and Eric Dailey Jr. (11.6 ppg), but they figure to spread the ball around; freshmen Nikola Kusturica (Serbia) and Joe Philon III (Montverde Academy) each scored in double digits in both of the Bruins' exhibition wins.
