Women’s basketball took care of business at USC. The Women of Troy secured two wins due to great guard play. For the men, transfer guard Kam Woods had an elite performance get spoiled, but Ezra Ausar led the Trojans to a victory to bounce back from a devastating loss to Iowa. In the NBA, two Trojans shined and represented USC to the best of their abilities.
Here are my top performers across hoops this past week for USC, both in college and the NBA:
Women’s Basketball – Jazzy Davidson
Jazzy Davidson was her usual elite self, as she posted 21 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals in the victory over Iowa earlier in the week. Versus Rutgers in the blowout win yesterday, Davidson stuffed the stat sheet, leading the Trojans with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Davidson has been a model of consistency, and this week the wins followed her stellar performances.
Women’s Basketball – Kara Dunn
Kara Dunn had yet another impressive week. Dunn vs the Hawkeyes on Thursday had a team-leading 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Against Rutgers in the win Sunday night, Dunn led the team once again with 18 points and 6 rebounds. She continues to be the star of this season alongside Jazzy Davidson.
Men’s Basketball – Kam Woods
On Wednesday, transfer Kam Woods tried to take matters into his own hands vs Iowa. Woods put up 33 points, 4 steals, and only missed 5 of his 17 shots. It was a great showing for Woods, who made the most of his opportunity that night. He single-handedly beat the Trojans in a tight distance and gave USC a chance to pull off another big upset in conference. Unfortunately, Woods’ stellar night was outshone by a devastating loss.
Men’s Basketball – Ezra Ausar
Ezra Ausar had himself a modest performance on Wednesday in a loss to Iowa. In the Trojans game following their loss, Ausar showed up big time. Ausar led the Trojans to victory with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. He was the consistent star the Trojans needed, and he dominated the paint all night long. When he is effective, and he is having a confident night, the Trojans, like on Saturday, come out on top.
NBA – Isaiah Collier
No Keyonte George, no problem. In his first start of the season, Collier stepped up big with 19 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Collier was consistent in scoring this past week, reaching double figures each game. It was not just his scoring either, he was an elite facilitator posting at least 6 assists in each of the 4 games this past week. He had success defensively, having a 4-steal game on Wednesday. The Jazz should have the utmost confidence in Isaiah Collier as he continues to make an impact on both ends of the court.
NBA – Demar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan turned back the clock this past week. Derozan had two 30-point games this past week, one of which came yesterday as he dropped 32 on 10-16 shooting. He also had a 25-point performance with 8 assists in the battle vs the 76ers that resulted in a game-winning basket by Tyrese Maxey. Any good performance Derozan has does not correlate to his team winning games, it just correlates to his trade value growing. With a week like this past week, DeRozan can be on his way to playing for a contending team.
