Why Michigan State Will Win: UConn won’t push around the Spartans
Why is UConn looking like the team we were all expecting, after struggling a bit with its consistency late in the season? Rebounding.
It got by Furman because it was +21 in rebounding margin, and +11 against a UCLA team missing its big star inside,
Tyler Bilodeau. This isn’t the thumping Michigan State teams of past years, but it’ll power away inside on both ends of the floor.
The 27 combined offensive rebounds that helped the Huskies in the first two rounds won’t be there this time around.
North Dakota State came up with just one offensive rebound on the Spartans, and this week, the ten allowed to Louisville will be cleaned up.
Why UConn Will Win: Michigan State won’t push around the Huskies
Again, UConn is shoving everyone around lately.
It might not get the big offensive rebounding numbers like it cranked up in the first few games, but the Spartans will be one-and-done way too often.
But as tough as Michigan State is, it loves to run, and it loves to take the three.
It was on against Louisville, making 11-of-26 (42%), and it’ll have a hard time doing that against the amazing UConn D from three.
UCLA hit its threes against UConn, but couldn’t make anything else. The Huskies clamped down.
UConn vs Michigan State Prediction, Betting Lines
UConn is 20-0 on the year when holding teams to under 50% from the field, and 11-5 when it doesn’t. Michigan State is 23-0 when making 46% of its shots, and 4-7 when it doesn’t.
The Spartans will move the ball better, be more dangerous on the fast break, and far better on the free throw line. It won’t be enough – UConn is playing too well, it’s too sharp, and has too much confidence.
This will be a war.
