UCF received a $25,000 fine from the Big 12 Conference Tuesday, Feb. 3, after Knights fans stormed the court with 0.2 seconds left on the clock in an 88-80 men’s basketball win over Texas Tech Saturday.
“In accordance with Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a $25,000 fine of UCF for the court storming prior to the conclusion of Saturday’s men’s basketball victory over No. 11 Texas Tech,” the league statement said.
UCF’s student section spilled onto the floor at Addition Financial Arena as the buzzer sounded. But the fans were forced to return to their seats when the officials met and determined Chris Johnson had fouled the Red Raiders’ LeJuan Watts with 0.2 seconds remaining.
After a nearly 10-minute delay to clear the hardwood, Watts made one of his two free throws to solidify the final score.
Once triple zeroes truly arrived, the fans walked onto the court again. It marked the Knights’ second court-storming of the season, with the first coming after they knocked off No. 17 Kansas on Jan. 3.
UCF will head to Houston Wednesday to square off with the eighth-ranked Cougars. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
