A major name headlines the latest class set to be inducted into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame.
The 50th class for the area hall of fame will be headlined by decorated Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo.
Izzo, who is the winningest coach in Big Ten history, is part of a class featuring seven individuals and a team that will be formally inducted in August.
Dave Allen (baseball), Debbie Kent (softball),, John Holmes (football, basketball) and basketball standouts Cortney Scott, Denzel Valentine and Drew Valentine are the other individuals joining Izzo in this year's class. Scott starred at Waverly before going on to play at Oakland University.
Denzel and Drew Valentine were basketball standouts under the father Carlton at Sexton. Drew Valentine, who is the current coach at Loyola Chicago, went on to play at Oakland and spent time as a grad assistant at MSU. Denzel Valentine played at MSU.
The 1999 state champion Okemos softball team led by star pitcher Jessica Beech Bograkos will also be inducted.
