The Minnesota Timberwolves have pulled off a trade to bolster the roster after signing Jonathan Kuminga this offseason.
Minnesota has been significantly retooling the roster this summer. They traded away Julius Randle and Naz Reid while landing the likes of LaMelo Ball and Kuminga, taking a unique direction in the Anthony Edwards era.
Balancing out the starting five with Kuminga taking the power forward spot, Minnesota has focus on revamping bench depth. They made their latest move after landing Cody Williams and John Konchar from the Utah Jazz. In exchange, they sent out Josh Green and cash to Utah, per insider Shams Charania.

“The Minnesota Timberwolves are trading Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote. “The Timberwolves are expected to keep Cody Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, and waive-and-stretch John Konchar, sources said. They found a home for Josh Green on a Jazz team that wanted an additional 3-and-D wing; moving his $14.7 million deal gives Minnesota the salary space to sign Jonathan Kuminga using the taxpayer midlevel exception.”
“This is a terrific trade for the Timberwolves to add John Konchar as a utility guy off the bench and take a chance on Cody Williams deep on their bench. This move also opens up the cap flexibility Minnesota needs to officially sign Jonathan Kuminga,” NBA insider Brett Siegel mentioned.

The Timberwolves will have plenty of optimism about their roster as Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball possess great potential as a dynamic duo next season.

Minnesota finished with a 49-33 record last season, securing the sixth seed in the Western Conference standings. They finished above the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns while trailing the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Timberwolves made noise in the playoffs, stunning the Denver Nuggets in six games despite suffering significant injuries. However, their postseason journey ended after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in six games.
