Bill Self has made good use of the offseason, adding 10 new players to Kansas’ roster. Their headline addition was freshman Tyran Stokes on April 28, as the No. 1 overall recruit chose Kansas over Kentucky.

The latest addition to Self’s team, announced by the school on Monday, is Purdue transfer Trey Kaufman-Renn. After weeks of uncertainty, Kaufman received a preliminary injunction allowing him to be eligible for a sixth year in college. After the injury to freshman Grant Mordini, Kansas had a roster spot open, making space for Kaufman-Renn’s arrival.

He spent last season with Purdue and was selected as the No. 59 pick in the 2026 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, although he played in the Summer League, he never signed a professional contract, which allows him to return to college for a sixth season, according to the court ruling. Despite that, fans did not approve of his return.

“I said I didn’t like this when other programs do this. In the name of keeping that same energy, I do not like this. Rock chalk, but this nonsense needs to stop,” one fan said.

The Purdue forward averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season.
