TCU Horned Frogs lost 58-81 to Duke Blue Devils in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This March Madness loss served as a clear message for TCU that they have serious limitations on offense.
TCU's offense is not yet elite enough to sustain 40 minutes of play against the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. They played up to standard for 25 minutes, but when the game demanded difficult shots and individual creativity, they came up short.
The Horned Frogs looked good early, forcing turnovers, competing physically, and even tied the game at 44-44 with 13:56 to play.
Micah Robinson, Xavier Edmonds combine for 30 points but TCU gets little elsewhere
The team was holding up defensively. But after that tie, TCU collapsed on offense. They allowed a 26-6 run and missed 15 of their next 17 shots. That reflected the difference between a dream upset and the reality of March Madness.
TCU has two clear high-level shot creators: Micah Robinson and Xavier Edmonds, who produced 30 of the 58 points. But more than being good news, it highlighted the team's heavy reliance on these two players.
After this loss, the Horned Frogs will need to focus their efforts on finding one or two big-game scorers. They will also likely need to redefine the roles of their key players. Robinson and Edmonds proved they belong, but they need David Punch and other perimeter players to have a more consistent impact.
