Adrian Autry's days as the Syracuse Orange men's basketball coach may be numbered.
And if he indeed is cut loose after this season, SU will have a crucial replacement hire on its hands.
Syracuse stayed in-house with Autry after Jim Boeheim retired, but it hasn't really worked. The Orange are tracking to miss the NCAA Tournament for a third time in Autry's three seasons.
Will they stay with a familiar SU face again? Gerry McNamara, currently at Siena, would be the logical fit in that mold.
Many think Syracuse should go elsewhere, though.
College basketball insider Jeff Goodman is on that train, and he names two guys he thinks SU should pursue: Josh Schertz and Bryan Hodgson.
Schertz is the head coach at Saint Louis, where he's now in his second season leading the Billikens. Before SLU, he was the head coach at Indiana State.
Hodgson is the South Florida head coach, and he's from New York.
Born in Olean, Hodgson then played in college at Jamestown Community College and started his assistant coaching career at Fredonia. He also was an assistant under Nate Oats at Buffalo (and then followed him to Alabama).
Hodgson was the head coach at Arkansas State before going to USF.
Both would be outside faces to try and revive a once-proud Syracuse program.
The clock certainly might be ticking on Autry.
