Syracuse Men's Basketball: Gerry McNamara Provides Multiple Significant Injury Updates

The Syracuse Orange men's basketball team defeated Siena 81-76 on Sunday afternoon in the team's second exhibition matchup of the year.

While the win was certainly nice, it didn't come easily. Syracuse was down by one at halftime before taking a 13-point lead in the second half, but Siena got back to within one with 90 seconds to play.

New head coach Gerry McNamara said after the game that the program isn't yet where it needs to be, and he added that he didn't think his team was ready to play.

Also after the game, McNamara provided several noteworthy injury updates.

Here's what you need to know.

Aiden Tobiason

The transfer from Temple is expected to be a starter and one of the key members of McNamara's rotation. He left last Tuesday's exhibition against UConn with a right hamstring injury and McNamara said on Sunday that it will likely be a couple of weeks.

We don't know if that means Tobiason is in play for the Nov. 2 opener against New Haven or not, but McNamara is clearly doing what he can to try to get him healthier for it.

He started 32 games for the Owls last season, who now compete in the American Conference, scoring 15.3 ppg on 48.0 percent shooting. He pulled down 3.7 rebounds and dished out two assists per game.

Kiyan Anthony

The son of Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony played only eight minutes in this game, leading some to talk about his playing time and place in the rotation, but McNamara said he was battling some knee tendonitis.

It's clear that McNamara is playing the long game with his roster and is trying to protect players where he can, and he said that after the game as well.

Anthony averaged eight points a game last season in 29 games.

Tasman Goodrick

The transfer from Siena started last week against UConn but didn't see any minutes in this game as he also battles knee tendonitis.

Garwey Dual

The transfer from McNeese State played just 12 minutes in this game, but he made them count. He had eight points and five rebounds, hitting multiple shots from the free-throw line and in. McNamara said that he rolled his ankle in the UConn loss, so clearly this was a management situation on his part.

He's expected to be the starting point guard for this team, and he's started both preseason games.
