The Kentucky Wildcats once again fell behind against Tennessee in the first half, and once again, they came back in the second half and made big plays down the stretch to secure another win against the Volunteers.
If last night felt like watching a movie you had already seen, that’s understandable.
Kentucky trailed by as many as 14 but held Tennessee to just 24 points in the second half, outscoring the Vols 41-24 in the final 20 minutes to come away with a win.
It was a total team effort, particularly down the stretch. Otega Oweh made some big plays, especially defensively when he forced Nate Ament into a contested mid-range turnaround jumper in the final 20 seconds. Collin Chandler hit a massive 3-pointer with about 30 seconds left to give Kentucky the lead.
Brandon Garrison had a crucial offensive rebound and putback. Mo Dioubate made one of the biggest plays of the game, rebounding a missed Chandler free throw. Denzel Aberdeen hit some big free throws down the stretch. Multiple guys made big plays in big moments.
It was a much-needed win for the Wildcats, as they earned a regular-season sweep over Tennessee and are now 17-7 and 8-3 in the SEC.
It also came on a night Kentucky brought back its denim uniforms while honoring the 1995-96 NCAA Championship team, making for an all-time special night inside Rupp Arena.
The early-game struggles remain a point of frustration, but this team has plenty of heart, resilience, and fight.
