Few teams in the league are in a better position than the San Antonio Spurs. With a superstar to build around and a stacked supporting cast that ensures depth and flexibility, they are poised to be in the NBA title race for years to come.

While the new-look Spurs have yet to actually finish the job, franchise legend Tony Parker fully expects great things, mostly due to star center Victor Wembanyama. In a recent Q&A with a content creator, Parker gave a full review of Wemby, crowning him the best player in the entire NBA and one of the best things to happen to French basketball.

“It makes me very proud when I see French basketball and where we’re at… I feel very proud, and I feel that Wemby can take it to a higher level to win gold medals on a consistent basis. I’m super happy he’s a Spur, super happy he’s playing for the French national team, and I feel like, you know, he’s maybe the best player in the NBA right now,” said Parker, via Bea Fabregas. “And I hope he brings a lot of championships for the Spurs and France.”

Tony Parker played in a golden age for the Spurs, working alongside legends like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard, and head coach Gregg Popovich. With career averages of 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game on 46.0% shooting, he helped the Spurs to four championships, forever cementing his place in franchise history.

As a 7’4″ big man who can do it all on the floor (career averages of 23.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.5 blocks per game on 48.4% shooting), Victor Wembanyama has the skills to usher in a similar era of success, but he will need help to make it happen. Fortunately, just like Duncan had Parker and Manu, Victor can lean on guys like Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, and De’Aaron Fox to provide that critical support. Harper, specifically, sticks out as especially important for the Spurs’ success.

“The way that he adapted as a rookie, not everybody can adapt like that. He had a great season, and you can see a lot of similar stuff in the way he drives to the basket and in the way he’s fearless and going after it. I love it because I was kind of the same way. I think we’re very blessed to have a player like that,” Parker added. “I think he’s going to be good for a long, long time. He and Castle — they are like the real deal.”

At just 20 years old, Dylan Harper is still actively learning, and he isn’t anywhere close to his peak. Still, he always makes an impact when he’s on the floor, and he stepped up in the playoffs a few months back, averaging 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists over 23 games. If he takes a leap in 2026-27, it could be all the Spurs need to take that final step and go all the way.

Of course, a lot will need to go right for the Spurs to rectify their recent Finals loss, but the future has never looked so promising. Besides talent and depth at multiple positions, the modern-day Spurs have guys who are fearless on the court and who are willing to put in the work behind the scenes. As someone who has reached the heights of basketball success, Tony Parker recognizes their potential, and he’s looking forward to what the coming years will bring.
