Siena will take on #1 Duke on Thursday. The odds are heavily against the Saints, but that isn’t stopping guard Gavin Doty.
Doty, whom his coach describes as a “psycho,” in a complimentary way, is not shy, and apparently not intimidated by playing a #1 seed, much less Duke. How do we know?
Because he threw out this piece of red meat:
“The more I watch film, the more I know we can beat them. Them Boozers are gonna need more than a last name when they see me on the court.”
Sounds like Tobin Anderson, right before Farleigh Dickinson took out Purdue.
Doty is a 6-5 sophomore guard who is averaging an impressive 17.9 points per game, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
We’ll see if he can back it up when he’s up against Cayden Boozer, Isaiah Evans, and Dame Sarr, who has become a superb defender.
We’ll get into Siena more soon, but for the moment, note that Doty’s backcourt mate, point guard Justice Shoats, is 5-11.
