Scheyer On Foster’s Ankle

A couple of notes from Jon Scheyer’s comments at ACC Tipoff: first, Caleb Foster will not play on Thursday, as he has an ankle injury. He’s expected back for the season opener with Army.

Missing him against Belmont is less than ideal, but not having him for the subsequent exhibitions vs. Tennessee and Kansas could hurt. Foster is the most experienced player on the team, and a natural leader. Those games are both going to be challenging.

On the other hand, though, it’s a chance for Cayden Boozer and Deron Rippey to step up. And if you’ll remember, when Duke was missing Foster last spring, Boozer really stepped up and played at a very high level.

We didn’t specifically list Bryson Howard here, but obviously, he’s talented and capable of playing in both the frontcourt and backcourt.

So the absence will hurt, but it’s also an opportunity for those guys.

Scheyer was less clear about Scharnowski’s return, but hopefully, it won’t be long.
