The journey begins with the Tigers. Success here is all about the Cyclones’ “no middle” defense suffocating Tennessee State early to allow the starters some rest before the weekend turnaround.
Round 2: Kentucky or Santa Clara (7/10 Seed)
The winner of the 7/10 game will meet the Cyclones in the Round of 32.
• Kentucky: A high-octane matchup against a blue blood. Kentucky brings NBA-level talent and elite guard play, which would be a massive test for Iowa State’s perimeter pressure.
• Santa Clara: A dangerous mid-major that can light it up from deep. The Cyclones would need to remain disciplined on closeouts to avoid the upset.
Sweet 16: The “Rock Fight” Quadrant
This is where the bracket converges. If Iowa State advances, they will face the survivor of the 3/6/11/14 pod in the Sweet 16. This side of the bracket is loaded with defensive-minded teams:

Iowa State has reached the Final Four once in program history, back in 1944.
During that run, the Cyclones defeated Pepperdine in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champion, Utah, in the national semifinals. A trip to Indianapolis this year would mark the first time the program has reached the Final Four in the modern era of the tournament.
