The native of Australia flew under the radar recruiting wise. But ultimately landed at the former West Coast Conference rival of Bennett.
Foxwell rose to stardom in the WCC, though. He produced 11 different games of surpassing 20 points or more. Even Bennett’s Saint Mary’s team struggled defending him, with Foxwell dropping 27 on the Gaels during their Jan. 24 game. Foxwell torched WCC champ Gonzaga too during the regular season in hitting 27 points on Feb. 4.
The 6-foot-1 point guard additionally grabbed 4.3 rebounds per game with 6.5 assists. He produced five double-doubles during his freshman campaign with the Pilots.
Foxwell emerged as one of the best remaining PGs in the College Basketball Transfer Portal. He earned a four-star rating in the portal by 247Sports and got ranked as the nation’s No. 20 overall talent at his position.
He’ll now head to Tempe with the opportunity to lead Bennett’s first Sun Devils team. Bennett collected praise nationally after turning Saint Mary’s into a consistent winner and March Madness contender. The Gaels annually challenged WCC heavyweight Gonzaga for the top of the conference.
Bennett’s decision to join ASU brings him back to his home state. He’s originally from Mesa, Ariz., and takes over a team that has just one NCAA Tournament win during the 2000s era.
