Predicting Upsets In College Basketball This Week

Well, thanks to Jon Scheyer, it seems like it’s time to have the annual court-storming debate in College Basketball. To me, court-storming is one of those things that is something that is generally fun and positive, but can become a massive negative and dangerous event because of a few bad actors. As long as court storming is done safely, and the opposing team can make it off the floor safely, I am all for it.

But when you hear stories about players getting pushed or hit or heckled, it turns into something that doesn’t need to happen. I say simply hit these people with lifetime bans from college basketball events. If you’re going to storm courts, storm responsibly. With that rant over, let’s take a look at CBB games this week that will end up in upsets.

Purdue over Nebraska

By the time this game has a betting line, I do expect Purdue to come in as the underdog – they’re coming in losers of 3 of their last 5, and Nebraska is still sitting at 21-2. But I like the Boilermakers here, as I don’t think Nebraska has the size and strength down low to shut down Trey Kaufman-Renn and Oscar Cluff.

USC over Ohio State

Don’t look now, but the Trojans are getting as close to full strength as they have all season. Guard play has been a major roadblock for this team, and they now have Kam Woods and Alijah Arenas fully healthy and playing maximum minutes. They’re better than their numbers indicate.

Wisconsin over Michigan State

We know what the formula is to beat Michigan State – don’t let them run in transition, don’t allow their size to dominate inside, and have more than one scoring option (because Jeremy Fears will shut down your top option). Well, Wisconsin checks all of those boxes, and I expect John Blackwell to have a massive game as Fears will likely guard Nick Boyd.
