Indiana men’s basketball’s 2026-27 season, the second under head coach Darian DeVries, is set to tip off on against Eastern Illinois on Monday evening at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
DeVries and the rest of the staff led a drastic roster makeover this past offseason after missing the 2026 NCAA Tournament with an emphasis on size in the frontcourt. Just one scholarship player to log minutes in DeVries’ first season, Trent Sisley, remains rostered.
With all of that in mind, we wanted to give fans a chance to share their thoughts on how the season will play out. How many wins will Indiana finish with? Who leads the team in scoring? Which freshman emerges? Let us know below!
How many regular season wins will Indiana finish with?
Indiana hasn’t won over 20 games since the 2022-23 season, finishing at or below .500 in conference play in each ensuing season.
Who leads the Hoosiers in scoring?
Indiana went out and got Markus Burton, who’s never scored less than 17 points per game in a season through three years in college. Then there’s Aiden Sherrell, the prized portal signing out of Alabama who was key to the Crimson Tide’s high-scoring efforts. Maybe Bryce Lindsay proves even more capable than his role as a sixth man?
Does Indiana finish top-10 nationally in offensive rebounding?
Rebounding has been this team’s identity since landing a pair of 7-footers in the transfer portal, with DeVries emphasizing it as a focal point in practice.
Indiana’s rebounding performance across its three game exhibition slate would’ve ranked in the top-5 nationally on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor in 2026-27. That’s a small sample size, but still a really encouraging sign in the preseason.
The Hoosiers haven’t finished in the top-100 for offensive rebounding since the 2019-20 season. They haven’t finished in the top-10 since the 2012-13 season. They haven’t finished in the top-5 in any season tracked by KenPom, ever.
Will they reach the top-10?
Which unit will prove stronger?
Indiana’s identity is changing on both ends of the court, with the Hoosiers being able to rely more on the frontcourt defensively and less on the 3-point shot offensively.
Which unit will prove more effective in 2026-27, offense or defense?
Which freshman takes on the biggest role?
Indiana signed four freshmen, three from the high school ranks and one international, in its 2026 class.
Prince-Alexander Moody was the first player to commit to DeVries at Indiana, Vaughn Karvala committed last November and Trevor Manhertz did so in January with Clemens Sokolov joining the roster over the summer.
Manhertz played the biggest role in Indiana’s exhibition slate, playing substantial minutes against both Butler and North Carolina. Indiana sent all three high school signees onto the floor to close out the Western Kentucky game, with Karvala making some late plays to secure the win.
Which emerges as the most prominent member of the rotation in 2026-27?
