North Carolina Coach Gives Shocking March Madness Interview After NCAA Tournament Loss

The North Carolina Tar Heels are out of March Madness after a stunning upset, and head coach Hubert Davis’ postgame interview didn’t help matters for the traditional college basketball powerhouse.

The ACC program crashed out of the 2026 NCAA Tournament Thursday after a shocking loss against Virginia Commonwealth University. However, UNC’s head coach only made things worse for the Tar Heels after the game.

During his postgame press conference, Davis didn’t have any rationale explanations for his decisions in the second half. That included several awkward exchanges with reporters after VCU’s epic 19-point comeback.

The Tar Heels coach was asked about only using six players in the second half. His response certainly had social media blasting Davis after saying “because it’s my decision.”

North Carolina played its Round of 64 matchup without its top star, Caleb Wilson. However, VCU’s impressive second half still shows that March Madness is in full swing just one day into the NCAA Tournament.

For Davis and North Carolina, it marks the second straight season that the Tar Heels have been bounced in their first game of the tournament. Meanwhile, that’s a far cry from where UNC usually lands as one of college basketball’s elite programs.

UNC’s biggest rivals Duke also struggled massively in their opening game against Siena. However, Jon Scheyer and his team secured a victory and avoided a massive upset against the 16-seed.
