WASHINGTON –  Break out the victory milk-shakes for the Marquette men’s basketball team.

Under Shaka Smart, the Golden Eagles celebrate road victories with the sweet treats and they hadn’t won away from Fiserv Forum until a 76-60 victory over Georgetown on Feb. 24.

MU (10-18, 5-12) got contributions from up and down the roster, with standout freshman guard Nigel James leading the way with 20 points.

Five starters scored in double figures for MU against the Hoyas (13-15, 5-12), the first time the Golden Eagles have done that since Nov. 5 vs. Southern.

The Golden Eagles had to deal with adversity before the game even started when sophomore forward Royce Parham hurt his back during the pregame warmups.

He was listed as questionable but replaced by fellow sophomore Damarius Owens in the starting lineup. Parham eventually hobbled back to the locker room and didn’t return to the MU bench until the second half.

Owens made the most of his first college start, scoring 10 points as the Golden Eagles went into the locker room with a 40-35 lead.

MU looked poised to break the game open in the second half after an 8-0 run gave the Golden Eagles a 55-42 advantage.

The Hoyas kept hanging around, however, cutting MU’s lead down to 57-51 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

MU pushed the lead up to 64-54 when Adrien Stevens strolled through the paint for an uncontested layup.

The Golden Eagles then finished strong, something they have struggled to do this season.

First Stevens made a 3-pointer to give MU a 67-57 lead, then James soared through the lane with five minutes left for one of his best finishes in a freshman season full of them.

The victory was somewhat tempered with 1:12 left when senior guard Chase Ross went down with a nasty looking left shoulder injury.

Marquette at Georgetown prediction

This is it. The elusive road win for MU has to come in this one, right? All the close calls recently will pay off when the freshman backcourt of Nigel James Jr. and Adrien Stevens – a native of the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area – combine for a big game and taste what it's like to win away from home.

Prediction: MU 75, Georgetown 68
