Caitlin Clark had a phenomenal game against DiJonai Carrington and the Chicago Sky on Sunday, tallying 37 points and 10 assists, while shooting a career-high eight 3-pointers in a 113-90 win. The game was packed with highlights for the three-time WNBA All-Star. Even the plays she didn’t complete looked unreal.
One such moment was when Clark pump-faked Carrington and Azura Stevens, causing the two to crash into each other. Clark turned around and attempted the jumper but could not convert. The video surfaced on X on Thursday, and Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy took a jab at Carrington while reacting to the clip.
“Never gets old watching Caitlin punk Dijonai,” he wrote.
Carrington and Clark’s battles have been high-intensity and, at times, controversial since the Fever superstar came into the WNBA. On Sunday, Carrington seemed to instigate several confrontations with Clark. In one instance, she mocked Clark for allegedly flopping. Shortly after, Clark hit a 3-pointer on Carrington, and the Sky guard bumped into her counterpart.
However, Clark, who has seven technical fouls this season and is one away from an automatic suspension, chose not to engage.
Caitlin Clark and the Fever’s showdown against the Sky had 3.3 million viewers
Caitlin Clark and the Fever continued to dominate WNBA viewership records after their game against the Sky on Sunday drew 3.3 million viewers on NBC. The network announced on Wednesday that it was the largest audience for any game since the inaugural weekend of the WNBA in 1997.
Sunday’s game was highly anticipated despite the Sky’s lottery-bound status. DiJonai Carrington’s altercation with Sophie Cunningham in the Aug. 8 game also fueled the rivalry. Carrington committed a Flagrant 2 foul on Cunningham, leaving the Fever guard bleeding.
After she got ejected, the Sky guard posted on X the date of Chicago’s Aug. 23 matchup against the Fever, indicating that she had this game circled. Clark’s 37-point double-double was another reason behind the viewership milestone.
Clark and the Fever now have the five most-watched games of this season alone. The other matchups were against the Las Vegas Aces (July 12) with 2.64 million viewers, the Atlanta Dream (Aug. 16) with 2.6 million viewers, the Chicago Sky (Aug. 8) with 2.56 million viewers and the Minnesota Lynx (Aug. 2) with 2.51 million viewers.
This season alone, three of the WNBA’s top-10 most-watched games have been recorded, all featuring Clark and the Fever.
