Otega Oweh and the Kentucky Wildcats saw their college basketball season come to an end on Sunday.
Kentucky ended the regular season with a 22-14 record, finishing 10-8 in conference, tying for seventh in the SEC conference standings with the Georgia Bulldogs and the Missouri Tigers. The Wildcats began the SEC Tournament by defeating the LSU Tigers 87-82 in the first round and Missouri 78-72 in the second, before falling to the No. 1 seed Florida Gators in the Quarterfinals 71-63.
After regular season play, Kentucky was granted a No. 7 seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats narrowly escaped their first-round matchup, beating the No. 10 seed Santa Clara Broncos 89-84 on Friday. Kentucky’s season ended after losing 82-63 to the No. 2 seed Iowa State Cyclones.
Kentucky was led this season by its do-it-all guard Oweh. A highly touted recruit out of New Jersey, he originally committed to and played for the Oklahoma Sooners. He spent two seasons in Norman before transferring to the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season.
Oweh has constantly improved, increasing his minutes, points, rebounds, assists and steals per game averages every season. The senior guard was instrumental to the Wildcats success this season, averaging team highs in minutes per game at 32.8, points per game at 18.6 and steals per game at 1.8.
After the loss to the Cyclones, Oweh not only leaves the NCAA Tournament without any hardware but has also, unfortunately, played the final college basketball game of his career. This prompted the NCAA to send a parting message to the Kentucky star.

Oweh has seen his draft stock rise in March, and the Wildcat will hope to hear his name called in the 2026 NBA draft starting on June 25.
