The roadmap has finally been fully laid out for Mizzou Men’s Basketball’s 2026-27 season.
The SEC released the conference schedule Monday, completing the Tigers’ 31-game regular-season slate as Dennis Gates enters his fifth season as head coach. Mizzou is ranked No. 21 in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 and will once again face one of the nation’s toughest schedules after making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
Mizzou opens SEC action on Jan. 2, with a road trip to Arkansas, a matchup that serves as an immediate rematch of last season’s regular-season finale, an 88-84 overtime loss to the Razorbacks. It also marks the first time since joining the SEC in 2012-13 that the Tigers will open league play against Arkansas.
Following the trip to Fayetteville, Mizzou hosts Texas A&M and Kentucky at Mizzou Arena to begin the new year before traveling to Tennessee for a midweek game against the Volunteers. Last season, the Tigers proved they could handle an early gauntlet, beginning SEC play 3-1 after opening 4-1 the year before, and an upgraded nonconference schedule should have them truly battle-tested.
Mizzou’s home conference slate features marquee matchups against Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas, while road tests at Florida, Auburn, Texas and Vanderbilt highlight a demanding travel schedule. The Tigers will face Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee twice this season.
The conference bye week falls on Feb. 7, one week later than it did a season ago, before Mizzou closes league play with four of its final six games away from home. The regular season concludes March 6 against LSU in Columbia before the SEC Tournament returns to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville from March 10-14. Outside of conference play, Gates assembled arguably the most challenging nonconference schedule of his tenure.
Mizzou opens with an exhibition at UNLV before taking on Cleveland State in the season opener – Gates’ former school — which he’s added to the schedule for a second straight season. The likes of SLU, Marquette, Pittsburgh and Kansas highlight the early tests in the first 10 games of the campaign.
The Tigers will play neutral-site games against Marquette in Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska in Kansas City, and Illinois and the Billikens in St. Louis. A true road matchup at Indiana on Dec. 18 provides another opportunity to strengthen Missouri’s NCAA Tournament résumé before SEC competition begins. The challenge mirrors the conference’s recent pedigree.
The SEC has produced more NCAA Tournament bids than any league in the past two seasons, including 14 teams in 2025 and 10 in 2026. Eight SEC programs are in ESPN’s preseason top 25, led by Florida at No. 1, with Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Mizzou all earning spots in the rankings.
Game times, TV assignments and specific midweek dates for conference games will be announced later, but Mizzou’s path toward a third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance is going to be a gauntlet like no other.
