Michigan men’s basketball senior guard Elliot Cadeau and sophomore guard Trey McKenney finished the 2025-26 college basketball season as Wolverine heroes. Now the backcourt tandem will start the 2026-27 season as Preseason All-Big Ten team selections the Conference announced Monday.

Cadeau, who was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and McKenney, who snatched eight pivotal rebounds and sank one of the most clutch 3-point shots in Michigan history during the national title game win over UConn, became the 25th and 26th players in program history to earn Preseason All-Big Ten honors.

Together, Cadeau and McKenney make Michigan one of two programs with multiple selections on the 11-player All-Big Ten team, joining Illinois with David Mirkovic and Andrej Stojakovic.

After transferring from North Carolina, Cadeau started in all 40 games for Michigan this past season, which culminated in the program’s second national championship. Michigan finished the season with a school record 37-3 mark. The 6-1 guard averaged 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and led the team with 5.9 assists per game.

McKenney, a Flint, Mich. native, averaged 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds while appearing in all 40 games. The 6-4 guard led the Wolverines with 68 3-point buckets and was an 89.5 percent free-throw shooter.

This is the fourth time in Michigan basketball history the program has placed multiple players on the preseason team, joining Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III (2013-14) and Hunter Dickinson and Caleb Houstan (2021-22).

Michigan State junior Jeremy Fears Jr. was named the 2026-27 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year.

Also, on the team are Pharrell Payne (Maryland), Pryce Sandfort (Nebraska), John Mobley Jr. (Ohio State), Trent Perry (UCLA), Rodney Rice (USC) and Nolan Winter (Wisconsin).
