The 31-0 Miami University RedHawks are ranked No. 20 in the latest AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll released March 9, down from 19th one week earlier.
The RedHawks received 420 votes in the new poll. Miami defeated Ohio in overtime, 110-108, on March 6, to finish the regular season undefeated improve to 18-0 in Mid-American Conference play this season.
Miami is the only undefeated Div. I men’s basketball team in the country.
The RedHawks are scheduled to open the MAC tournament against No. 8 seed UMass on Thurs., March 12 at 11 a.m. Eastern.
After Miami’s win in their regular-season finale, RedHawks head coach Travis Steele confirmed he still intends to wear a Speedo at the team’s NCAA tournament Selection Sunday watch party.
College basketball analyst Bruce Pearl said he isn’t rooting for the RedHawks to win the MAC tourney, but it’s not for the reason many would expect.
During a TNT Sports interview March 7 with RedHawks head coach Travis Steele, Pearl agreed to pay the amount of Steele’s fine from the Mid-American Conference for a halftime tantrum at Western Michigan, to Steele’s favorite charity.
