For decades Master P has been known as a rapper, actor, businessman, and at times a basketball player in minor leagues. But after gaining some experience running a college basketball team behind the scenes, he seems eager to get into coaching by taking a pretty big job.
According to Kyle Odegard of Sporting News, Master P has expressed interest in the vacant Arizona State men's basketball head coaching job. Last week the Sun Devils announced that longtime head coach Bobby Hurley would not be returning for another season following the team's 17-16 campaign.
Master P, whose real name is Percy Robert Miller, has been working at the University of New Orleans but has coached at the AAU level in the past, working with the likes of DeMar DeRozan, Lance Stephenson and Brandon Jennings.

Obstacles
Basketball fans have largely been dismissive of the idea though, pointing out that Master P doesn't seem to have enough relevant experience on the court to justify a job like that.
"Can he recruit? That should be at the top of the list of qualifications. ASU will never advance the program unless they recruit better," one user responded on X.
"This would continue the oddest transition in sports history. It would be kind of awesome though," another remarked.
"He coached them in AAU? The Big 12 isn't AAU. If he is a good president of bball ops, hire him for that, but I don't see how this resume makes him a qualified college head coach," a third wrote.
Arizona State hasn't transitioned to the Big 12 Conference on the basketball side nearly as well as their football team has. The basketball team has just one winning record in conference play since the 2020-21 season and hasn't gone past the first round of the NCAA Tournament since 2009.
Suffice it to say, there's a lot of work that needs to be done with the program.
