On Thursday, it was reported that UConn assistant Luke Murray has been hired by Boston College to replace Earl Grant as head coach of the men’s basketball program.
Murray, the son of movie star Bill Murray, has been an assistant coach since 2008 at Post, Arizona, Wagner, Towson, Rhode Island, Xavier, Louisville, and now UConn. Murray is a disciple of Dan Hurley, serving on his staffs at Wagner and URI before eventually being reunited with him again at UConn in 2021. Murray was the offensive coordinator for the Huskies offense that won back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024.
Although he has plenty of coaching experience in college, this will be Luke Murray’s first ever head coaching position. It’s a departure from the norm for Boston College, who typically hires its head coaches from the mid-major level, not assistants from a power conference.
