After a thrilling win over Ashland, the Grand Valley State men’s basketball team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Lakers lost 69-67 to Michigan Tech on Sunday, March 15, in North Canton, Ohio.
GVSU led 67-65 in the final seconds but Michigan Tech’s Marcus Tomashek hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining. He was fouled and made the free throw for a two-point lead.
The Lakers had one last shot but Jalen Charity’s 3-point attempt was off the mark.
GVSU finished the season 26-7. Michigan Tech improved to 28-6 and advanced to the regional final.
Mason Docks led GVSU in scoring with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting with two three-pointers, two assists, and two rebounds. David Wilkerson scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Trevor Smith Jr. netted 11 points and dished out four assists on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. Jalen Charity added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Holland native Ethan Alderink had seven points and six rebounds in his final game.
The Lakers shot 44% from the field and 40% from three while Michigan Tech shot 35% from the floor and 32% from 3-point range.
