Kansas Basketball Opens Practice to Private Viewing for Fans

Kansas basketball is giving a small group of fans an opportunity to get an early look at both the men’s and women’s teams as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.

The Kansas men’s and women’s basketball programs have continued preparing for their upcoming seasons, with both teams entering the fall with plenty of attention surrounding their new-look rosters. The opportunity for fans to watch portions of practice provides a different way for supporters to see the teams before they officially begin their exhibition schedules.

For Kansas fans, practices are normally closed to the public, making private viewing opportunities a chance to see players compete and get a feel for how each team is coming together. With both programs undergoing preparation for their respective seasons, the sessions can also give fans an early look at the chemistry and development taking place inside the gym.

The men’s team, coached by Bill Self, enters the season with significant expectations after adding several new pieces to the roster. Kansas is also preparing for a challenging exhibition schedule that will include matchups against Pittsburg State, Louisville and Duke. The matchup against Pittsburg State on Oct. 16 will be part of Late Night in the Phog, while Louisville and Duke will follow later in October.

One of the biggest storylines surrounding the men's team is how quickly the new players can develop chemistry. Watching practice provides an opportunity to see how Self is mixing returning players with newcomers and which players could emerge as important contributors once the regular season begins.

The women’s team is also preparing for a season that features plenty of familiar faces and new additions. Head coach Brandon Schneider returns All-Big 12 First Team selections S’Mya Nichols and Jaliya Davis, giving Kansas experience to build around.

The Jayhawks will begin their exhibition schedule against Northeastern State on Oct. 22 before hosting Washburn on Oct. 29 as part of Late Night in the Phog. Kansas will then officially open its regular season against Omaha on Nov. 3 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Allowing private viewing of practice gives fans a chance to see the work that takes place before the lights come on for an actual game. It also adds another level of excitement as both programs move closer to their first opportunities to compete against outside opponents.

For Kansas, the upcoming weeks will be about establishing rotations, building chemistry and preparing for the challenges ahead. For fans who receive access to the private practices, it will be an early opportunity to see those preparations up close.
