The Kansas Jayhawks scored a big win on the college basketball transfer portal with the commitment of Toledo Rockets guard Leroy Blyden Jr.

Blyden is coming off a terrific freshman campaign with the Rockets in the 2025-26 season and will now be taking his talents to Lawrence.

“NEWS: Toledo transfer Leroy Blyden Jr. has committed to Kansas, Brandon Grier and Rob Murphy of Equity Sports told DraftExpress,” Jonathan Givony of Draft Express reported via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

Blyden was an instant hit for the Rockets, as he won the MAC Rookie of the Year. He averaged 16.4 points on 46.1 percent shooting from the field. He also recorded a 40.7 percent success rate from behind the arc on 5.6 attempts per game, while averaging 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds through 34 games (32 starts).

Blyden is clearly more than just a scorer, but his ability to produce buckets and stretch the floor with his proven accuracy from deep is going to be a huge plus for Kansas basketball, which will not have the NBA-bound Darryn Peterson back.

Peterson made a huge impact on Kansas whenever he was on the floor, and he’ll be a tough act to follow, but Blyden seems to possess qualities that can greatly soften the blow of Peterson’s departure.

Before making the decision to commit to the Jayhawks, Blyden fielded plenty of interest, having also visited the St. John’s Red Storm.

Blyden joins a Kansas program that has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the last six seasons, a stretch that includes its national championship win in 2022 and a second-round exit in the 2025-26 campaign.
