KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas Jayhawks earned their bragging rights for the second time this season, beating the K-State Wildcats 104-85 at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Darryn Peterson led the way for KU with 27 points, five rebounds and four assists. It was an efficient and productive game for Peterson, who shot 10 of 15 from the floor and seemingly broke out of a slight shooting slump with Saturday’s high-output performance.
Peterson’s frontcourt companions played well also; Tre White racked up 23 points and 11 rebounds as well, and Melvin Council Jr. tallied 17 points, eight boards and 11 assists.
Kansas big man Flory Bidunga continued his solid play as well with 13 points and five rebounds on a perfect six for six from the field.
As a team, the Jayhawks shot nearly 60% from the field compared to the Wildcats’ 43%. Another big reason for the blowout was K-State’s inability to rebound; they pulled in just 26 total, with six offensive boards. KU nearly doubled that with 43, 12 on the offensive side.
It’s the last game of the regular season for both teams. The Jayhawks will now look to compete for a no. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament– they could lock that down with a Big XII Tournament win in Kansas City.
