Indiana men’s basketball is going to need plenty of additions through the transfer portal this offseason as head coach Darian DeVries launches his second roster reload in as many seasons in Bloomington.
We’ll be looking to get ahead of some targets here with brief profiles if there’s an established connection to Indiana, DeVries or his staff. Only players who’ve stated their intentions to enter the portal will be covered, we’re not gonna overstep there.
G Colby Garland – 6’0”, 190 lbs
- Former program: San Jose State
- Statline: 20.3 PTS, 3.3 REB, 4.6 AST
- Connection to Indiana: Former Drake guard under Darian DeVries
- Portal intent
Garland will be entering his fourth season of college basketball in the 2025-26 season with his career having started as a true freshman at Drake under DeVries in 2023-24. He played a key role for the Bulldogs, largely off the bench as another ballhandler behind Conor Enright.
He spent the 2024-25 season at Longwood, where he started in 28 of the Lancers’ 32 games while averaging 12.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game before transferring to San Jose State ahead of the 2025-26 season. He posted the highest usage and shot rate in the Mountain West during his lone season with the Spartans, ranking second in assist rate and ninth in turnover rate while shooting 49% from the field and 37.2% from 3-point range.
Should he transfer to Indiana, a drop in his raw overall production is to be expected given the Hoosiers would surround him with more talent. It’s also worth wondering why, when Garland was available through the transfer portal in each instance, he wasn’t added to DeVries’ rosters at West Virginia or Indiana.
