The Grand Valley State men’s basketball team defeated No. 17 Northern Michigan 67-57 for the GLIAC Tournament championship on Saturday, in Marquette.
The Lakers earned the GLIAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament, which begins this week.
Both teams struggled from the field, shooting less than 40%. But GVSU outscored the Wildcats on points off turnovers 20-3 and got to the free-throw line and went 19-for-31.
The Lakers turned the ball over just twice the entire game, while forcing 14 Wildcat turnovers.
GVSU led by as many as 19 midway through the second half.
Jalen Charity and Mason Docks each scored 13 points, while Antaune Allen had 12 and David Wilkerson added 11. Holland native Ethan Alderink had eight points, two steals and two assists.
