The NCAA has been in turmoil over student-athlete eligibility rules for quite some time now. There has been a lot of discourse over what should be allowed and where the NCAA should draw the line. The most recent update for one of the college basketball stars in limbo is good news for Rick Pitino and St. John’s.
Auburn transfer guard and 5-star transfer prospect Keyshawn Hall has reportedly been granted a temporary restraining order in the state of New York. His hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. As of now, he is eligible to play for St. John’s this season. Fans called out St. John’s, the NCAA, and the fiasco around Hall’s eligibility case.
“Just keep trying in different states until you get the answer you want. Embarrassing,” one fan said.
Keyshawn Hall’s attempts to gain fifth-year eligibility
Hall previously sued the NCAA in the Queens Supreme Court, where another St. John’s target, Babacar Sane, received a temporary restraining order. However, unlike Sane, Hall had no luck with the proceedings. The case had no final ruling, and Hall was left waiting for his fifth year of eligibility.
He has now taken his case to the New York court, where he has found some luck. With a temporary restraining order confirmed, the hearing for the case will take place on Tuesday, October 6. As things stand, Hall is eligible to play for Rick Pitino.
Hall averaged 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 36 games for Auburn last season.
