EAST LANSING — The mission for a repeat for the East Lansing boys basketball team came up just short.
The Trojans suffered a 54-50 loss in the Division 1 state championship game on Saturday, March 14, at Michigan State’s Breslin Center.
Eli Wolife hit the go-ahead basket with 56 seconds remaining to give Rockford the lead. East Lansing only managed one shot attempt the rest of the way and missed it with 9 seconds remaining.
Rockford added a layup in the final seconds as it wrapped up the state championship.
Mr. Basketball winner KJ Torbert had a game-high 28 points for East Lansing, which was trying to be the first team to repeat as champion in the state’s largest division since Clarkston won back-to-back Class A titles in 2017 and 2018.
Kingston Thomas finished with 10 points for East Lansing.
