College football took its game over to historic Wembley Stadium in London as the Arizona State Sun Devils and Kansas Jayhawks took the field (or pitch, if you will) on Saturday.
Fans in the United States watching the Fox Sports 1 telecast saw the Sun Devils beat the Jayhawks 24-17. But the game didn’t seem to impress fans much, and they aired their grievances online.
CFB World Not Happy with Arizona State-Kansas Matchup
How upset were these fans? Hey, some of them didn’t even want Arizona State or Kansas to be on their screens. Take a look at what one fan posted online: “Why would the NCAA allow Arizona State and Kansas to play in London? Nobody even wants to watch them in America.”
Longtime college football reporter Stewart Mandel of The Athletic also had a few thoughts on his mind, too, while watching the Jayhawks and Sun Devils duke it out in the United Kingdom.
Mandel wrote in a post on social media, “In other ugly performances, Kansas is embarrassing itself in London. Down 24-7 to ASU with every imaginable type of turnover.”
College Football Pulse’s X account was a bit confused about why these two teams were playing overseas. The account posted, “Why in gods name is Arizona State playing Kansas in London right now? I seriously don’t know what college football is doing. They’re destroying everything that makes the game special”.
Cody Nagel, who writes about college football for 247Sports, wondered out loud about how moving this game to London can have an economic impact.

Nagel wrote online, “What’s the positive of moving Arizona State-Kansas to London? Taking a Saturday of business away from the local economy, making fans spend more to travel and sending players 5,000 miles away. The tradeoff makes no sense. Keep our sports in America.”
One college football fan was actually at Wembley Stadium and shared a stark image showing many empty seats.
The fan also wrote, “Kansas and Arizona State travelled 12 hours to London for this … The NFL and NCAA is really trying hard to make football international like basketball and soccer. Just let them play at their school!”
Nicholas Dioli, a co-host of the “Just Means Less ACC” podcast, had a couple of pointed questions around the whole idea of sending Arizona State and Kansas a long way from home.

Dioli wrote, “What the hell are we doing? Why are we putting Arizona State and Kansas in England on Week 3? Enough of this. Stop taking away home games for the players and fans.”
With the lack of a heavy turnout for this game on Saturday, one wonders if college football might decide to avoid games in Europe. Especially during Week 3 or 4 of the season.
