Creighton head basketball coach Greg McDermott announced his retirement from coaching after a 25-year career on Monday Throughout his career, McDermott had a coaching record of 514-319 with stops at Northern Iowa and Iowa State before landing at Creighton in the 2010 season.
In his first five seasons as a coach at Northern Iowa, he went 90-63 before resigning and going 59-68 in four seasons at Iowa State. Over his tenure with Creighton, he finished 365-188 and is the winningest coach in program history.
He led Creighton to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances with an Elite 8 run in 2023 being his best. In Big East play, Creighton has been to five conference championship games and won a share of the regular season championship as well in 2019-2020. He won the Big East Coach of the Year award in that same season.

After announcing his retirement, McDermott announced that he will coach out the rest of the season as Creighton gears up for the College Basketball Crown postseason tournament that tips off on April 1st.

Creighton will take on Rutgers in the quarterfinals on April 2nd at 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
