Former Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski couldn't help but poke fun at college football coaches during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."
Krzyzewski led Duke's basketball team from 1980-2022 before announcing his retirement. He left the sport behind with 1,202 career wins, five national championships and 13 trips to the Final Four.
While on McAfee's show this Wednesday, Coach K was asked how he handled such a demanding schedule for over four decades. Krzyzewski used that question as an opportunity to troll football coaches who legitimately spend all day and night in their offices.
"The only thing I would say — those football coaches ended up sleeping in their offices," Krzyzewski said. "I never did that. If I’m going to sleep, I’m going to sleep in my damn bed… And by the way, my wife would kill me if I did that. Talk about accountability."
Coach K shares thoughts on 2026 NCAA Tournament.
Krzyzewski told McAfee that he could see Arkansas and Vanderbilt winning their respective regions this March. Both SEC teams showed championship potential during the 2025-26 regular season.
That being said, Krzyzewski is primarily focused on Duke. He'd like to see Jon Scheyer lead the team to a national title in the coming weeks.
"I'm not gonna go sightseeing thru the NCAA Tournament," Krzyzewski said. "I'm gonna watch my game and give Duke 100 percent."
Duke, the No. 1 overall seed in the dance, will begin its quest for a national championship this Thursday against Sienna.
