The AP Preseason Basketball Poll was released Monday, and BYU snuck in the poll at #25. BYU is one of six Big 12 teams ranked along with Arizona (5), Houston (10), Kansas (17), Iowa State (18), and Texas Tech (19).
This is a unique top 25, since voters considered fifth-year players differently. For example, teams like Iowa State, Texas Tech, and BYU would be higher would be higher if all their pending fifth year guys are considered eligible. As a result, the next poll could change quite a bit depending how the courts continue to rule. Recently, courts have ruled in favor of the players.
BYU’s season-opening opponent Ohio State is just outside the poll at #29 overall. BYU will play the Buckeyes Monday, November 2 at 7pm MT in Salt Lake City. The game will be broadcast on FS1. Nebraska, who BYU beat 72-61 in an exhibition on Friday, is also just outside the poll at 27.
