The Chicago Bulls will enter the 2026-27 season with a huge void. They will not have the beloved Stacey King in his analyst seat in the broadcast booth. In June, King unexpectedly passed away at the age of 59.
The cause of King’s death was cardiovascular disease.
As a result, the void is great and will be hard to fill. On Friday, the Bulls announced their search, albeit begrudgingly, to find the next Stacey King, if that’s even remotely possible, per Ryan Glasspiegel and Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.

They are looking to bring on a rotation of analysts for the season. One name being floated is Robbie Hummel. Hummel is a former basketball player at Purdue. He played from 2007 to 2012 and was a two-time All-American. Afterward, Hummel played for the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2012 to 2017.
He has also done work as a college basketball commentator for ESPN and the Big Ten Network. He has also filled in for Bulls games from time to time.
However, even though there is mutual interest, Hummel is unlikely to take the Bulls job full-time because of his current position, per Jeff Agrest of The Chicago Sun-Times.
King played for Chicago from 1989 to 1994. He was part of the first Bulls three-peat teams from 1991 to 1993.
Beginning in 2006, King was a color commentator. Along the way, King became a popular fixture whose catchy one-liners and fan-like demeanor made him one of a kind.
In truth, he can never be replaced. All they can really do is hope for the best.
