I can’t remember a March Madness Sweet Sixteen where the slate of games looked this good. The biggest point spread in these 8 games, per KenPom, is 8 points. I mean, honestly, what is the least appealing game on this slate? Iowa vs Nebraska Because we’ve seen that game twice already, and one edition was a 3-point game and the other went to overtime. This slate is so, so good. Here are our BOLD predictions for the March Madness Sweet 16 games!

Duke holds St Johns to 62 points as the Blue Devils cruise to a double-digit victory

The Blue Devils, now that they have Patrick Ngongba back, are a nightmare matchup for the St. John’s offense. The Blue Devils will deny transition opportunities, and their length makes them incredibly hard to score on at the rim. St Johns wants to run in transition and get to the rim. On the other side, it’s going to be too much Cam Boozer. Blue Devils roll.
David Mirkovic puts up 17, 7, and 5 in an Illinois win over Houston
Speaking of nightmare matchups, I think the Illini are a nightmare for Houston. The Cougars’ reliance on offensive rebounding and aggressive, trapping defense will not work against a big, skilled, smooth shooting forward like Mirkovic. He kind of reminds me of Iowa State’s Joshua Jefferson, who tore up Houston this year. Speaking of…
Iowa State beats Tennessee by 8 points without Joshua Jefferson

We finally saw what I like to call an “I’m him” game from Tamin Lipsey in the round of 32. Forever content to be his offense’s second option, Lipsey took over the game with Joshua Jefferson unable to go, scoring 26 and dishing 10 assists. I expect the same from him against Tennessee, and I expect the Volunteers (who rank 225th nationally in offensive turnover rate) to struggle with Iowa State’s traps and ball pressure.
Michigan drops 100 in a rout of Alabama
The Crimson Tide does have a path to winning this game, but it’s a narrow one. They pretty much have to shoot 50% from 3, which they are capable of. But that number’s so high because the Wolverines are going to pulverize them on the glass and in the paint. I see Michigan’s triple-big lineup with Yaxel Lendeborg, Morez Johnson, and Aday Mara just dominating this game as they will receive very little resistance from the other side.
Dailyn Swain puts up a 20/7/7 line as Texas plays Purdue to the wire

Dailyn Swain is the rare player who leads his team in all 5 major statistical categories — points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He’s a 6’8” athletic specimen who is going to play in the NBA, and Purdue has nobody who can match up with him. I think Swain dominates on the offensive end, and the Longhorns keep it close, but Texas is unable to get enough stops at the end of the game to pull off the upset.
