2026 Big Ten Tournament first round, Tuesday
Game 1: Maryland 70, Oregon 60
Oregon cut a 24-point deficit to single digits with under three minutes remaining, but the Ducks dug a hole too deep. Maryland, under first-year coach Buzz Williams, entered the Big Ten Tournament having suffered 20 losses in a season for the first time since 1988-89.
Now the Terrapins (12-20), who went to the Sweet 16 a year ago, are hoping for a miracle conference tourney run to return to the NCAA Tournament. They'll play Iowa at noon on Wednesday in the second round for the right to face top-seed Michigan.

David Coit's game-high 17 points helped Maryland avenge a 64-54 loss to Oregon (12-20) on Jan. 2. Coit was one of five Terrapins in double figures, joining Elijah Saunders (15), Andre Mills (12), Solomon Washington (12) and Darius Adams (10).
Nate Bittle led Oregon (12-20) with 16 points, while Kwame Evans Jr. had 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Northwestern holds slim halftime lead vs. Penn State
Jake West's layup with 29 seconds left in the first half broke a tie game and gave Northwestern a 34-32 lead over Penn State with the Indiana Hoosiers awaiting the winner.
Big Ten leading scorer Nick Martinelli had 13 points for Northwestern (13-18) in the first half. Penn State was led by Ivan Juric's 12.
