The road ahead for Ed Cooley’s fourth season at the helm of your Georgetown Hoyas is officially mapped out. The BIG EAST Conference released its full 2026-27 men’s basketball league slate, locking in the Hoyas’ 20 conference dates and finalizing a 32-game regular-season campaign. Combined with the 12-game non-conference schedule unveiled earlier this summer on June 25, the announcement gives fans their first comprehensive look at the program’s upcoming gauntlet. Times and television (steams) will be announced separately, soon.
The Hoyas kick off their conference slate inside the friendly-yet-cavernous confines of Capital One Arena on Saturday, December 19, hosting Seton Hall as part of an opening quadruple-header for the league.
The opening month wastes little time testing Georgetown’s mettle, sending the Blue & Gray on the road just four days later to battle perennial heavyweight UConn on December 23 for the Huskies’ own opener.
Georgetown will ring in 2027 with a critical homestand, hosting Xavier on December 30 before greeting Villanova on Sunday, January 3. No favors there.
That stretch begins a condensed January calendar highlighted by three league showcases:
- Three Games in Seven Days: GU travels to St. John’s on Wednesday, January 6, before returning home to host Creighton on Saturday, January 9—one of three Saturdays this winter featuring a full five-game BIG EAST slate.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day Matinee: The Hoyas take center stage on national television on Monday, January 18, kicking off a nearly wall-to-wall week of BIG EAST coverage with a holiday showdown against Butler at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
- Saturday Showcase Homestand: Georgetown wraps up that mid-January blitz by hosting Providence on Saturday, January 23, followed by the return of UConn in D.C. on Tuesday, January 26, before heading to Omaha to face Creighton on January 30.
February brings another brutal stretch of three games across six days, sending the Hoyas on back-to-back road trips to Marquette (Feb. 6) and Xavier (Feb. 9) following a home tilt with DePaul (Feb. 3).
Georgetown then returns to the District to anchor the league’s Valentine’s Day weekend showcase against Butler on Saturday, February 13.
The second five-game Saturday league showcase arrives on February 20 when St. John’s visits Capital One Arena.
The home regular-season finale takes place Tuesday, March 2 against Marquette, followed by the regular-season finale on the Main Line against Villanova on Saturday, March 6—the final day of the regular season when all conference programs will be in action (except St. John’s).
Postseason play follows immediately at Madison Square Garden from March 10–13, marking the 45th consecutive year the BIG EAST Tournament has been held at the World’s Most Famous Arena—college basketball’s longest-running conference postseason tournament at a single venue.
The conference gauntlet builds upon a 12-game non-conference slate highlighted by three bigger match-ups. Georgetown hosts local rival Maryland at Capital One Arena on Saturday, November 7, followed shortly by a tough true road test at Littlejohn Coliseum against Clemson on Friday, November 13.
A month later, the Hoyas welcome blue blood North Carolina to the District on Saturday, December 12.
Combined with the Thanksgiving week trip to San Diego for the Rady Children’s Invitational against Texas and either UCLA or Saint Mary’s, Georgetown will face immediate national scrutiny.
Before the official November 2 opener against Loyola Maryland, the Hoyas are also expected to get preliminary run in a pair of unannounced road exhibition games: an early trip to face Wake Forest on Sunday, October 4 at 12:30 p.m., followed by a crosstown exhibition clash at George Washington on Friday, October 16 at 6:00 p.m.
While the dates, venues, and rivalries are etched in stone, who will actually take the floor in the Blue & Gray remains an evolving story. Head coach Ed Cooley enters year four under immense pressure to build on last spring’s run to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals, especially after an offseason marked by heavy transfer portal attrition.
Complicating matters further are ongoing fifth-year eligibility issues that might not be resolved before opening night. Crucially, the playing statuses of both DePaul transfer forward NJ Benson and veteran center Vince Iwuchukwu are currently in the hands of the courts, as both are directly tied to ongoing lawsuits challenging the NCAA’s eligibility restrictions.
With federal antitrust rulings and preliminary injunctions under constant legal wrangling, neither player’s status is completely settled. If these court proceedings drag out or remain unresolved prior to tip-off, the Hoyas’ frontcourt rotation and scheme could look drastically different than initially drawn up.
Georgetown did take steps to reinforce its core elsewhere, adding Kentucky transfer guard Jaland Lowe, Kansas transfer guard Elmarko Jackson, and Charleston transfer center Chol Machot, among others, while welcoming back key returners like Caleb Williams and Kayvaun Mulready.
Yet, with Benson and Iwuchukwu awaiting judicial rulings rather than standard NCAA administrative decisions, Cooley’s depth chart remains a moving target.
Broadcast network assignments spanning FOX Sports, NBC Sports, and TNT Sports, along with tip times and arena designations, will be announced at a later date.
Between the early October exhibition tune-ups, high-major non-conference clashes, and 20 league dates, Georgetown faces an unforgiving road.
Whether the Hoyas have their full arsenal cleared in the courtroom in time to tackle it will be the storyline defining the Hilltop heading into November.

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team, in conjunction with the BIG EAST Conference, announced its conference portion of the 2026-27 schedule. The Hoyas add the standard 20 league matchups to its 12-game nonconference schedule. GU will play a total of 32 regular season games during the 2026-27 season.

2026-27 BIG EAST CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
- The Hoyas will open the 2026-27 BIG EAST season at the friendly confines of Capital One Arena hosting Seton Hall on Saturday, December 19. Georgetown will then head north for a road game at the University of Connecticut on Wednesday, December 23.
- The Blue & Gray returns to the District for a two-game homestand, hosting Xavier on Wednesday, December 30 before welcoming Villanova on Sunday, January 3.
- A quick trip up to New York to face St. John’s on Wednesday, January 6 precedes a Saturday matchup against Creighton at Capital One Arena to cap off three games in a seven-day stretch.

- Georgetown closes its January home slate with a pair of games in four days, playing host to Providence College on Saturday, January 23 and UConn on Tuesday, January 26. GU closes the month with a trip to Omaha to face the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday, January 30.
- The Hoyas open the month of February in the Nation’s Capital with a game against DePaul on Wednesday, February 3 before hitting the road for a pair of games with a trip to America’s Dairyland on Saturday, February 6 to face Marquette followed by a game at Xavier on Tuesday, February 9, completing its second six-day span featuring three games.
- GU returns home to host Butler on Saturday, February 13 before a trip to the Windy City to face DePaul on Tuesday, February 16.
- Another Saturday at home, the Hoyas host St. John’s on Saturday, February 20 before a trip up to Rhode Island to face Providence on Tuesday, February 23.
- The Blue & Gray hosts its final home game of the conference slate, welcoming Marquette to Capital One Arena on Tuesday, March 2 before closing the regular season on the Main Line at Villanova on Saturday, March 6.
- The Hoyas will then head to the BIG EAST Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

BIG EAST Announces 2026-27 Men’s Basketball Schedule
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule today. For the seventh straight season, the schedule includes 110 conference games in a double round-robin format.
Comprehensive coverage of BIG EAST Men’s Basketball for the 2026-27 season will encompass FOX Sports, NBC Sports, and TNT Sports. The full slate of game times, arena designations, and broadcast network information will be announced at a later date.
Conference play starts in December with a slate of 15 games, beginning with Butler visiting Providence on Saturday, Dec. 12 in a matchup of two first-year head coaches – Ronald Nored with the Bulldogs and Bryan Hodgson at the helm of the Friars. A four-game BIG EAST slate a week later highlights the schedule on Saturday, Dec. 19, with DePaul visiting St. John’s, Seton Hall traveling to Georgetown, Xavier playing at Marquette, and Villanova heading to Creighton in Alan Huss’ first conference matchup as head coach of the Bluejays.
The BIG EAST ushers in the holiday season with five BIG EAST games, beginning with Creighton at Xavier and Providence at Villanova on Tuesday, Dec. 22. The following day, Marquette heads to Butler, St. John’s faces Seton Hall in Newark, and UConn opens BIG EAST play by hosting Georgetown. The month ends with a trio of contests on Dec. 30 – Xavier at Georgetown, Seton Hall at DePaul, and St. John’s at Providence – before a pair of BIG EAST matchups on New Year’s Eve – Marquette at Creighton and UConn at Butler.
The first weekend of the January 2027 calendar is highlighted by five BIG EAST matchups between Jan. 2-3 – Providence at DePaul and Seton Hall at Xavier on Saturday, Jan. 2 and UConn at Creighton, St. John’s at Butler, and Villanova at Georgetown on Sunday, Jan. 3.
Three Saturdays from January to March will feature a full slate of five BIG EAST matchups, beginning with Jan. 9. The other two five-game Saturdays are Feb. 20 and March 6 – the final day of the regular season:

A nearly wall-to-wall week of BIG EAST coverage in the middle of the month begins with a matchup on Monday, Jan. 18 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – as Georgetown heads to Butler. A pair of doubleheaders on Tuesday, Jan. 19 – St. John’s at DePaul and Xavier at Villanova – and Wednesday, Jan. 20 – Creighton at Marquette and UConn at Providence – highlight the mid-week coverage before a Friday night feature as Villanova heads to DePaul. The week concludes with a four-game showcase on Saturday, Jan. 23 – Butler at UConn; Marquette at Xavier; Providence at Georgetown; and Seton Hall at St. John’s.
UConn visits St. John’s on Friday, Jan. 29 in a rematch of the 2026 BIG EAST Championship. The second matchup between the Huskies and Red Storm begins the final week of the regular season on Tuesday, March 2.
Five BIG EAST games highlight Valentine’s Day weekend, including Butler at Georgetown, DePaul at Providence, and Xavier at St. John’s on Saturday, Feb. 13. UConn plays at Villanova and Seton Hall heads to Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 14. Three straight days of BIG EAST action closes out the month of February, with Villanova at Marquette on Friday, Feb. 26, a tripleheader on Saturday, Feb. 27 with Butler at St. John’s, Creighton at DePaul, and Providence at UConn, before a Sunday, Feb. 28 matchup featuring Xavier at Seton Hall.
All 11 BIG EAST teams are in action over the final week of the regular season, featuring five games between Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 3 before a full five-game slate on Saturday, March 6.
For the 45th consecutive year, the 2027 BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden will be played March 10-13. It is college basketball’s longest running conference postseason tournament played at the same venue.
The BIG EAST saw three teams advance to the 2026 NCAA Tournament – St. John’s, UConn, and Villanova. The Huskies advanced to their third Final Four in the last four years, advancing to the national title game in Indianapolis. The Red Storm advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999, while Villanova returned to the NCAA Tournament field for the first time since 2022.
Since 2022, the BIG EAST has been dominant in NCAA Tournament play – posting the best winning percentage among all power conferences in the Big Dance – 40-20 (.667) – with two NCAA titles and four Final Four appearances.
