The Big 12 released its 18-game conference schedule for men’s basketball on Tuesday. Game times and tv designations will be announced at a later date. Below is BYU’s conference schedule and home and away games. Teams will play three teams twice, six teams home only, and six teams away only.

Home and Away: Utah, Arizona, TCU

Home Only: Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Baylor

Away Only: Arizona State, UCF, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Texas Tech

Takeaways

  • BYU’s home opener is Wednesday, January 6 vs Cincinnati followed by a Saturday home game versus Kansas. This is the second time BYU has hosted Kansas in Provo as a Big 12 member. Two years ago when BYU hosted Kansas the game was on a weekday. BYU’s winter semester start January 7, so all of BYU’s home games come when students are in school. The season opener at Arizona State is on the road.
  • As previously announced, BYU’s home game versus Arizona on February 22 is an ESPN “Big Monday” game.
  • BYU’s final regular season game at Texas Tech on March 5 is on Friday, suggesting that this should be a prime time game on FOX with Gus Johnson on the call.
  • BYU’s bye week comes in February between the Utah and Kansas State games.
  • On paper, BYU’s schedule is pretty well balanced. Looking at it today the toughest games are spaced out fairly well, although the first half is tougher than the second half of the schedule. January right now looks like the toughest month. Kansas, Arizona, Iowa State, TCU, and Houston were all tourney teams last season and should be again this year.
