Arizona men’s basketball broke the program record for best start to a season by moving to 22-0 last week.

Another record is in sights: most consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll.

Arizona is ranked No. 1 for the eighth consecutive poll, tying the record for most weeks atop the rankings. The 2013-14 team which started the season 21-0 was also ranked No. 1 for eight straight polls.

Arizona’s run at No. 1 matches Auburn’s streak from last year and is best since Gonzaga’s 20 straight weeks atop the rankings from 2020-22.

Arizona received all first-place votes this week. Michigan moved up to No. 2, followed by No. 3 UConn, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Illinois.

The Big 12 has six teams in the top 16: No. 7 Iowa State, No. 8 Houston, No. 11 Kansas, No. 13 Texas Tech and No. 16 BYU. UCF received 39 votes.

Arizona is No. 2 in the NCAA NET Rankings, behind Duke. The Wildcats are 9-0 against Quad 1 opponents and 3-0 against Quad 2 opponents.
