Less than 24 hours after securing its point guard in Elijah Crawford, Villanova has added his likely backup in Darryl Simmons II. The transfer from St. Bonaventure was third in the Atlantic-10 in scoring at 16.4 points per game. He led the conference with 2.8 threes per game, shooting them at a 42.5% clip. Simply put: Simmons II is a bucket. The downside is he is only 5’11”, so it will be interesting to see how he adapts to Big East play.
Assuming he is coming off of the bench with Jake Fiegen, the Wildcats will have arguably the most prolific reserve backcourt in the country. Both players will be able to provide elite shooting and tertiary ballhandling skills to a roster that currently doesn’t have a lot of it. Their fits with Devin Royal and Kwame Evans Jr. appear perfect on paper.
The additions leave Villanova with a roster composed of Crawford, Simmons II, Fiegen, Royal, Evans Jr. Tyler Perkins, Matt Hodge and Adam Oumiddoch. The only areas of need at this point are center and some depth. Kevin Willard’s roster is rounding into shape nicely.
